The EHS Manager is an integral member of the EHS team and has an impact on the profitability of the organization through contributions in Environmental, Health and Safety function. The EHS Manager is responsible for the day to day activities of the EHS process at the location by partnering with “customers” within the facility to help them achieve business objectives through the effective environmental, health and safety systems and processes.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Promote compliance with Belgian Legislation, Local and Dematic EHS policies, regulations and standards.
  • Continually stay abreast of legislation and share your knowledge and experience within the organisation.
  • Advises and assists Managers and Project Managers on EHS&S matters, with Corporate support he/she becomes a technical source for the location and projects.
  • Evaluate and control risks to employees. Develop risk assessments for the different sites.
  • Develop H&S Plan for projects. In collaboration with the project team draft and compile method statements to mount the installation in a safe way.
  • Develop emergency plans and implement them as appropriate,
  • Support to developing and implementation of corrective actions. 
  • Identify significant opportunities for HSE improvement, implementing permanent corrective action as final step to problem solving.
  • Organise and develop HSE training for employees and contractors.
  • Implements following components of Health and Safety program: Policies and procedures, Work at Heights, Electrical Safety, Lock-out/Tag-out, Powered Industrial Vehicles, Hazard Communication Program (GHS), Confined Space, Chemical Safety, Emergency Preparedness and Ergonomics Surveys and Screening.
  • Coordinates other EHS programmes in the following areas: Voluntary CPR/ First Aid/ Fire Brigade Training; Loss prevention services; industrial hygiene studies. Implements components of Health and Safety program and Coordinates several EHS Programmes in several areas.
  • Coordinate safety awareness posters and newsletter communications.
  • Develop appropriate safety and environmental auditing tools, create the audit plan and conducts audits as appropriate in offices, projects and other sites. Conducts routine safety walks.
  • Coordinate the medical check-ups
  • Coordinate the selection and provision of PPEs
  • Supervise and coordinate the subcontractor’s EHS performance and qualification
  • Maintain and implement ISO 14000, OHSAS 18000 and VCA.
  • Interface with worker’s representatives for EHS topics. Secretary of Prevention and Protection Committee.
  • Act as Dematic HSE representative to the Authorities, Industrial associations and to the customer
  • Coordinate accident/injury investigations, conduct reporting and analysis, monitoring the return to work program. 
  • Coordinate and support the Product Safety Responsible.
  • Compile data and develop reports for Central, Regional or Local Government, Corporate entities and Dematic internal; including monthly internal reports, accident/ incident report, Hazardous waste reports, reporting on packaging wastes and other country and local agencies. Understands and completes most regulatory reporting such as hazardous/ non-hazardous waste annual reports/ permitting.
  • Evaluate and control risks to employees and the environment by tracking and measuring environmental attributes by developing and implementing waste reduction/ pollution prevention projects.
  • Leads EHS initiatives within facility including Sustainability efforts, such as Energy Conservation campaigns, Energy Savings projects by leading/supporting multi-skilled teams to identify implement energy efficient technologies.  

Knowledge & Experience Require:

  • Prevention Advisor level 1
  • Experience on Quality, Occupational, health, safety and/or sustainability certifications (OHSAS 18001, ISO 14001, ISO 50001)
  • Bachelor Degree in Industrial, Mechanical, Chemical or Environmental Engineering and/or a Master Degree EHS Management
  • PC literacy
  • Fluent Dutch and English C1
